David Hoglund, ATS Store Fixtures and Equipment, Elgin, Ill., knows about displays. For the past 20 years he has been using his knowledge to help operators maximize their sales with effective merchandising. This year he is bringing his expertise to The NATSO Show where he will sit down with operators face-to-face at The Human Library at The NATSO Show 2014.

Hoglund said that all too often he sees operators who haven’t given much thought to their shelving and fixtures. “It seems the shelving is usually an afterthought when customers need to display products versus an investment to increase sales,” he said.

To prepare for a meeting, Hoglund suggests operators bring in a layout of their store along with some ideas of things they like.

Hoglund said operators often ask him about the latest colors and lighting trends with shelving. Right now, the biggest trends are LED lighting and texture paint shelving, he explained.

More importantly, Hoglund looks at the ways fixtures can translate into added sales. “I have been in this business for over 20 years and I understand that my job is to help them be as profitable as possible,” he said.  “We believe that we are more of a partnership than customer and vendor.”
